Psalm 2

Series: Summer In the Psalms | Week 1: Introduction and Psalms 1-5

For a detailed overview of the POST study method, refer to Monday’s email or go to tpcc.org/dbr and find Week 1: Day 1 of Summer in the Psalms.

Step 1: Pray and Prepare

Invite the Holy Spirit into your time, asking Him to teach you and speak to your heart. Turn over anything that may be distracting you.

Before starting the next step, take a few minutes to prepare. Read over any notes you took yesterday as we introduced the Psalms.

Step 2: Observe

Read Psalm 2 multiple times for comprehension. Write down what you observe and any questions that come up as you read.

Step 3: Seek Out

Now read other translations, commentaries, or study Bible notes to check your work from Step 2, gain further insight into the passage, and answer any remaining questions you have.

Study Tip: Psalm 2 is quoted often in the New Testament. Your Bible might include other verses in small print below or beside the main text. These are cross-references which are passages related to the main text. Sometimes these are places where Scripture quotes itself, other times they mark passages that have similar or identical wording.

Cross-references vary by translation, and not every printed Bible includes them. You can use biblegateway.com to view cross-references of translations like the NIV or ESV. On this site, they are indicated by capital letters inside parentheses. If you don’t see them right away, click on the gear icon for “page options” and make sure the box beside “cross-references” is checked.

Psalm 2 has many cross-references, and reading these related passages can enhance your understanding of the psalm. If you need a place to start, try reading the verses connected to Psalm 2:7.  According to the New Testament, who is the “Son” that God spoke of?

Step 4: Take Action

  • What does Psalm 2 teach you about God and following Him?
  • What is God saying to you as you read His Word and listen to His voice?
  • What do you need to do to obey?
